Black Dance As Resistance: Exploring Mississippi's Dance Community

Updated: Jan 19, 2021

Dance has always been a mode of joy, resistance and expression. Black Dance has morphed into many versions itself since Black people have been removed and redistributed across this world, shape-shifting and ever-evolving. Black Dance As Resistance is an exploration of Black Dance Culture. We wanted to explore what Black Dance is doing here in Mississippi and showcase the communities being built.

Grooves, Moves and Vibes is a dance community in Jackson, Mississippi that creates space for dancers to challenge and practice their craft. Watch as Amia Boggess gives us insight on her favorite dance style, what it means to her and how Black Dance Is Resistance. If you're a dancer, use #BlackDanceAsResistance to show us your power. #SippTalk
