Victory in the Delta: Clarksdale to Host Special Screening of Sinners With Cast & Crew in Attendance
Clarksdale, MS — May 24, 2025 — What started as a heartfelt call to action has become a triumphant reality: Sinners, the highly anticipated film inspired by the rich cultural legacy of Clarksdale, Mississippi, will officially be screened in the very city that gave it its soul.
Thanks to overwhelming public support—including signatures from hundreds of local residents and allies across the country on this open letter and petition—Warner Bros. has confirmed a special screening of Sinners in Clarksdale, complete with appearances from filmmaker Ryan Coogler, composer/Executive Producer Ludwig Göransson and cast member Miles Caton (“Sammie”). Also attending are Proximity Media producers Zinzi Coogler and Sev Ohanian and Executive Music Producer Serena Göransson.
This community-led celebration will take place May 29th–31st, 2025, with the special screening and Q&A with Ryan Coogler, Miles Caton, Ludwig Göransson set for May 29th. The weekend will include dynamic panels featuring local Clarksdalians, historians, artists, cultural workers, and musicians, anchoring the film in the soil it came from and uplifting the voices who live and breathe this region’s truths every day.
“There’s a groundswell of activity happening in Clarksdale, that’s burbling up from the ancestral soil that is known as the Delta. This moment is bigger than myself, bigger than Sinners, it’s about pride and ownership, and love,” Tyler Yarbrough, local organizer, said. “We’re bringing that to life, leveraging the premier of Sinners in Clarksdale, but we’re also very interested in keeping the microphone on Clarksdale now and in the future.”
“We owe Clarksdale so much, as Mississippians, the world owes Clarksdale and Mississippi as a whole so much for being a staple in the global culture landscape. For me Sinners was one of my very first experiences of seeing Mississippi in a full and beautiful light on the big screen,” said Jasmine Williams, founder of ‘Sipp Talk Media and one of the event’s organizers. “I think this film coming home and being made accessible to the people that inspired it is so important, so people here understand our impact on the world.”
"Hosting the screnning of Sinners is more than a moment for our Clarksdale, it's a movement. It signals that the Delta's creative power, history, and people are not just worth watching, but investing in. We're honored to welcome this film, its creators, and all who are ready to join us in celebration and to reimagine what's possible here," said Mayor Chuck Espy, City of Clarksdale
From the very beginning, SINNERS resonated with many in Clarksdale and reinforced that their community’s stories deserved to be told. The public response made it clear: we are not only subjects of inspiration, we are the architects of our own narrative.
